"Total cases" counts every action in the database where the company appears as a named defendant, including co-defendant suits. A single multi-defendant lawsuit therefore increments the count for each named defendant.
How to read this list
A few notes for fair comparison.
- Co-defendant inflation. Companies frequently sued together (e.g., a foundation-model maker and its cloud distributor) will both show high counts off the same lawsuits.
- Subsidiary roll-up. Where a parent and subsidiary appear on the same complaint, both are counted unless they're recorded as one entity.
- Consolidation. Member cases of a multi-district litigation are still individual defendant exposures and are counted individually. The MDL itself is also tracked — see MDLs.
- Scope. Only AI-related lawsuits, per our coverage policy.
